Aquila is the Latin name for eagle, a constellation, and the scientific name for the species. It is carved in live-edge silver maple. The eye is gold leaf in a knot hole, covered by a drop of UV-cured, clear resin.
*Note to self: the overall color of the wood is a yellowish-brown, so that a transparent ink that is ‘blue’ turns green when applied. I guess the feathers did not want to be blue/grey. What the wood wants, the wood gets!
