A New Year, a New Direction

Updated: Jan 15, 2023

TAKE TWO...WE ARE RESENDING THIS BLOG BECAUSE SEVERAL OF OUR SUBSCRIBERS DID NOT RECEIVE IT. APOLOGIES IF YOU HAVE ALREADY READ OUR...

Welcome to 2023!

Hope you all had a great holiday. I'm going to be brief because I am so excited to share Mr. Al's BIG NEWS....

This year, I am offering something a little different: small, original one-of-a-kind paintings for $45. They will never become prints. You may see them as a notecard (because I mean to expand that section on this site,) or perhaps on a coffee mug over at Brynn Design, but you will never see a print. If you fall in love with one, you will need to place your order pretty quickly.

Here's the first little guy:

Fox in Snow. (Thought he was fitting for January.)

He's not very big...4x6 and he comes in a 5x7 mat.

AND NOW FOR MR. AL'S BIG NEWS!

THEY'RE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, some of my wood carvings are on the site and for sale! *A special note of interest: All of my carvings are now offered as original carvings, in real, natural wood, with no duplications possible. They are one-of-a-kind pieces of art that can't be found anywhere else, and nobody else can have them except the one it's meant to go to.

With respect to pricing, woodcarving is a very different challenge. It's all handwork, with chisels, gouges, and even dental picks! Also, they aren't completed until I feel confident they address my whole intent. Honestly, you're buying a piece of me. As far as how long they take to carve, I have never kept track, and frankly, even if I charged a dollar-an-hour, they would run into the thousands.

So that's not a possible option. I believe we came up with a fair price by using a per-square-inch calculation.

I really hope you enjoy them and one or more speaks

to you!

My first carving of 2023 is just beginning to materialize. The Philosopher's Stone deals with the direct incompatibility of the first people of what is now called America and the European concept of direct personal ownership and colonization. The indigenous people had no idea of money or its need, as Mother Earth provided everything for everyone. The notion that gold should be created made no sense.

It will be a while before this one can be shown in stages of completion, but the line has been committed to the wood, which is hickory. The image on the right is the initial layout of the piece. Elements have been added since to help it bounce a little more, but this is the primary image.

Wish me luck!

Brynn, here....Al doesn't need luck. I am so fortunate to have a ringside seat of his carvings' journey from a slab of wood to a completed piece. I encourage you to take a look at the seven pieces in the Woodcarvings Category.

On the website, there is a dropdown bar for each of the categories, or you can just click on "All Products" and go about it that way.

Have a great month, Peeps! Stay warm where it's cold, and dry where it's wet. Until next month...Al and I will be doing our AlChemy thing in our respective studios. Cheers!
